LECTURE ON FUEL CELL TECHNOLOGY IN A LOW-CARBON ECONOMY
CALGARY (APRIL 23RD)
Nigel Brandon, Chair of Sustainable Development in Energy at Imperial College London, will give a lecture titled “The role of fuel cell technology in a low-carbon economy”.
The lecture will focus on the role that fuel cell technology can play in reducing carbon emissions from the transport, heat and power sectors. Particular attention will be paid to the role of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles compared to that of battery electric vehicles, and the role of natural gas and biogas-fuelled fuel cells for the generation of power and heat at high efficiency.
The lecture is free and will run from 3:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. in Room 116 of the Information and Communications Technology Building at the University of Calgary’s main campus

The Centre for Innovation Studies (THECIS) is hosting a breakfast seminar on innovation in Canada. The keynote speaker will be Todd Hirsch, Senior Economist at ATB Financial and co-author of the recent book “The Boiling Frog Dilemma: Saving Canada from Economic Decline”.
Mr. Hirsch and his co-author, Robert Roach, argue that ideas are what drive wealth creation and Canada is in danger of falling behind internationally. Mr. Hirsch will discuss how Canada needs to “up its game” when it comes to innovation and entrepreneurialism to avoid becoming economically irrelevant on the global stage.
The event will run from 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM.
